A small place
on a small island.
We built Mowies because we wanted somewhere on Gili Air that felt less like a resort and more like the slow, salty, barefoot version of home. Open since 2014, and still a small family affair.
The west beach
of Gili Air.
Mowies sits on the north-west stretch of Gili Air; the side where the sunsets land, the breeze stays soft, and the reef starts three steps from the sand. Bali is a clean silhouette across the water most evenings; the turtles are usually closer than that.
What started as a handful of bungalows has grown into a small beachfront estate with a saltwater lagoon, an open-air kitchen, and rooms from cosy garden studios to a family-sized retreat. But the heart of it hasn't changed: fresh food, slow mornings, and a welcome that actually feels like one.
We're family-run. Every bungalow is looked after by a team we know by name. The kitchen cooks what the boats brought in that morning. And the bar never closes early on a good sunset.
Small things,
done with care.
A kitchen you can taste the sea in
Fish from the morning boats. Vegetables from Lombok farms. Sambals made by hand. No buffets, no heat lamps; everything cooked to order.
Service without the script
Nobody here recites a welcome speech. We remember how you take your coffee, we know which snorkel fits, and we'll tell you the truth about where to eat on the other side of the island.
Lighter on the island
Solar where we can. Refills instead of plastic bottles. Reef-safe sunscreen on the shelves. Gili Air is tiny and fragile, so we try to leave it exactly as we found it.
Built on the people here
Most of our team grew up on Gili Air or Lombok. They're the reason Mowies feels like Mowies. The rest is just walls and a roof.
The rest is better
told in person.
Pick your bungalow, pick your dates, and there'll be a cold coconut waiting the minute you step off the boat.
